Phil Kirk, Toledo, won the 2003 national 3-wall championship in the 45-singles division by defeating perennial finalist Dave Dohman, from Chicago, 14 and 16. George Miller, also from Toledo and one of the driving forces behind the tournament, teamed up with Ed Grossenbacher from Oregon. They defeated Don Ardito and Jack Carkeek (IL/AZ) 7 and 16 in the championship match on Monday. Due to extended rain, all of the Monday matches were played on indoor 4-wall courts. For the Cincinnati crowd, the highlights of the USHA 3-Wall Nationals were the cameraderie, hospitality, and the chance to see first rate handball played in all divisons in Maumee. In the 40-B division, Jim Wohl won his first match before being defeated (17, 10) in the round of 16 by Wes Humphreys from Orlando, FL. Jack Prather played in the Masters-40+ division. He made a major comeback in the 2nd game before losing to Mark Murphy from Chicago in a tie-breaker, 13, (20), 6. Jim Krailler ran out of gas in a tie-breaker against Ed Campbell from Salinas, CA in the 50+ division. Scores of that match were 5, (19), 6. In the 60+ Singles division, Jim Ballinger lost early to Greg Husar (17, 19) from Reno, NV. Jim then teamed up with Bob Whitman, from Columbus, for 60+ Doubles, losing to Don Ardito and Jack Carkeek (IL/AZ) 7, 8. Complete results are available at the USHA's
