Vern Roberts, USHA

Masters of the Masters !!!

Dear Greater Cincinnati Handball Association,
Thank you!
On behalf of the USHA and all the handball players in Cincinnati this past weekend -- Thank you.
It was a great week for handball and I'm very glad some of the players got to enjoy the three-wall courts -- courtesy of the great weather.
I very much meant what I said at the banquet: Cincinnati Handball has come a long way since the 16-man tournament at the Williams Y that was run by
one man -- my pop. As much as we all loved those days (competitors included Dr. Walt Stone, Carl Topie, Bruce McCormick and Mike Driscoll),
seeing Jack and George lead a committee meeting of a dozen dedicated volunteers on Wednesday night showed me what a huge step forward the GCHA has made over the years!
By the way, Ralph and I weren't even good enough to play in my dad's event at the one-court facility that was the Williams Y. And, we were barely
good enough to enter the Queen City when it was first held at the Downtown Y's spacious three-court facility!
I'm sorry I wasn't able to compete in the singles this time, but I sure had fun playing some doubles and will look forward to getting on the court the next time.
My congratulations to everyone on the committee and I'm very proud to be remembered as a handball player from Cincinnati.

Sincerely,
Vern Roberts

GREAT TOURNAMENT!!!
You have set a high standard for all tournaments that follow. Hospitality was top notch. The work at the control desk was especially impressive. Matches were kept on time and players were not left wondering if a referee was going to show up.
Congratulations to all involved in the planning and running of this tournament. Waycross AC is an excellent facility and Paul Baker and his staff did a great job.
