With a 20 degree temperature and a 10 degree wind chill at noon on
January 1, the 2010 version of the Annual BlueBall Open was one of the
shortest on record.
In fact, the pictures below don't represent some of the action
-- they represent ALL of the action.

As the hearty group gets ready for
competition,
Ralph Weil again asks "Why do they use the green handball for the
BlueBall?"
then, "Why do they call it the BlueBall?"
then, "Who is 'they' anyway?"
then, "Why do I ask so many questions?"
|

Bob Burkitt launches the opening serve
but the ball is so cold, it shatters like an icicle into 100 pieces
|

Before Ralph can find a replacement ball,
George Lehocky takes charge and stops the 2010 BlueBall,
proclaiming, "This is nuts!"
|

Johnnie Walker, disappointed at the early end of the tournament,
awaits the trophy presentation.
|
|
And, so ended the 2010 BlueBall, as everyone ran to their cars,
turned up the heater, and drove away into the blustery weather, some
stopping for lunch, libations and talk of a more productive 3-wall
season in the months ahead.
