Income / Expenditures / Current balance - June income and expenses were mostly related to the Caples tournament and merchandise sales. Current balance of the GCHA checking account is $9,356.19. 

Caples 3-Wall Memorial Financial Report - The 2003 Caples Memorial showed a net profit of $ 835. See below.

Memorial Funds - There was no activity in either the George Coleman Memorial Fund or the Bruce Beimesch Memorial Fund this past month.

Membership Report - Membership increased by 1 during the past month (Steve Dykes signed up at the 3-Wall tournament) for a current total of 126 members.

Summer 3-Wall Doubles League, Veterans Park - Carl Huether and Mike Reilly won the A-division, defeating Jack Prather and Jim Wohl in the final round of the play-offs. Bob and Trey Hiance defeated Don Meyer and Bob Burkitt (Russ Duade substitute for most of the league) for championship of the B-division. Jim Krailler has ordered plaques for the winners.

The date for the "End of League" party is set for Friday, August 22nd. Play starts around 4:00 pm. GCHA will supply pizza and drinks (watered-down gatorade, sodas and beer) for the evening. There's no cost for paid league players; other GCHA members are invited to join in the festivities for $10.

GCHA Golf Outing - The date has been set for Friday, September 12th, with a sign-up deadline of August 29th. Entries forms and information were included in the July ShortLine.

State Championship - See "Regional Report" below.

Merchandise - Information has been updated and posted on the website, including shirts available from the Caples 3-wall tournament.

Plaque, 3-Wall courts - Bob Burkitt sought vendor quotes for nameplates (Bob Burkitt and George Lehocky) to add to the wall plaque at Veterans' Park. The Board approved expenditures of $ 85 each (other quote was for $130 each) for the nameplates.

GCHA Fall Meeting - The Board set the date of Monday, October 13th, for the Annual GCHA Fall Meeting and Member Appreciation event. The meeting will again take placeat Paul Baker's Fitness@Waycross club. George Lehocky will continue to work with Paul Baker and other Board members to finalize arrangements.

Caples 3-Wall - David Kent presented a detailed accounting of income and expenses for the 2003 Bob Caples tournament, showing a net profit of $ 835.

Advanced Mortgage (Tom Gilday), Kids First Sports Club (Jeff Metzger), Longhorn Steakhouse (Jim Wohl) and Spraying Systems (Glenn Laque) were the major sponsors of the tournament, donating $250 each. Other sponsors include: Mike Barnes, Eckerlin Meats (Bob Hiance), Moskowitz Brothers (Bob Moskowitz), WaterX (Rich Loflin), and Welch Allyn (Carl Huether). Jim Krailler was the tournament director, with a great deal of assistance (much appreciated) from all members of the Board.
Quality of Gatorade - In response to player critiques, the Board endorsed purchase of bottled, pre-mixed Gatorade at any and all future events.
2004 Date - Alternate dates for the Caples tournament were discussed, but the decision on summer 2004 was deferred for a later meeting.

Columbus 3-Wall - Scheduled for Westgate Park on the 2nd weekend in August, 9th - 10th. Entry forms and information have been posted on the GCHA website; starting times, draw and final results will also be posted, when they became available.

USHA 3-Wall Nationals - Dates and the entry deadline remain on the GCHA Calendar page on the website. An entry form .pdf file is also available.

World Handball Championships, Ireland - To date, no Cincinnati players are committed to this tournament.

October ShortLine - Jim Krailler reminded Board members of the September 15th deadline for articles for the October 1st issue of the ShortLine. Information for the Fall Party and Membership Appreciation Night, and an entry form for the Queen City Shootout are scheduled for inclusion.

Queen City Shootout - Dates of Friday, November 7th through Sunday November 9th will be the first choice of days for this tournament.

Other?

Mid-America Region Report:

  • Jack Prather, USHA's Mid-America Regional representative, reports that Mario Dolciato (replacing Ken Katafias) is the new USHA representative for the state of Ohio. Jim Corrigan (replacing Charlie Parks) will become the new Regional Commissioner.
  • Ohio's State Tournament will likely move to Cleveland State University this coming February, 2004. Friday and Saturday matches will be held at Cleveland State, with finals held on Sunday at the Cleveland YMCA.
  • A new tournament: has been scheduled for the weekend of October 24th-26th at the Willoughby, OH YMCA. Additional details will be forthcoming.
