Income
/ Expenditures / Current balance - September income and expenses
were mostly related to the printing and publication of the Fall ShortLine.
Current balance of the GCHA checking account is $ 8,642. In
addition to the montly reports to the Board, Treasurer David Kent
prepared an article for the Fall ShortLine, out-lining income and
expenses during the current fiscal year.
Memorial
Funds - No change in the George Coleman fund. David Kent
pointed out that the Beimesch Memorial is completed and should be
removed from future agendas.
Membership Report
- Membership forms were published in
both the on-line and paper versions of the Fall ShortLine, along with
an article by George Lehocky detailing the value of GCHA membership.
George encouraged Board members to "Go for More in 2004"
and encourage membership over the coming months, in order to equal
or better the 2003 total of 126. In order to further "incentivize"
existing members to seek out and sign new members, the Board voted
to donate a can of balls to any paid member who solicits a new member
under age 35. In addition, George
Lehocky will work with Jason Headings regarding College teams who
sign up 10 students.

GCHA Golf
Outing Wrap-Up - 18 foursomes participated in this year's
Golf Outing at Green Crest. No financial report has been received,
but verbal reports from Paul Baker indicate that the event lost a
few dollars. The Board (some reluctantly) decided not to pursue a
detailed accounting.
GCHA Fall Meeting - The Board set the date of
Monday, October 13th, for the Annual GCHA Fall Meeting and Member
Appreciation event. The meeting will again take place at Paul Baker's
Fitness@Waycross club. George Lehocky will continue to work with Paul
and other Board members to finalize arrangements. Courts will be reserved
starting at 4:00 pm. Food and drinks will be provided by GCHA, with
a working budget of no more than $500 for the evening. In addition
to the party, the GCHA supply of water-proof yellow-bags will be distributed
to those in attendance. George presented a preliminary agenda, with
additions made by Board members at the meeting.

October
ShortLine Wrap-Up- Jim Krailler sought feedback on the Fall
ShortLine. Board members seemed pleased with the
articles and content. Jim Krailler noted that Ralph Weil should be
thanked for prompt publication and distribution, as early October
events were included in articles and on the calendar.
Fall
League - Paul Baker will host a Fall Doubles league at Waycross.
Signups will be taken at the annual meeting. Games will be held on
Friday evening. Cost will be $10 for Waycross members, and non-members
will be again be welcome. Additional details will follow, and sign-ups
encouraged at the Fall Party..
GCHA Slate
of Officers, 2004
- ShortLine article and website headline specified "We are accepting
nominations and self-nominations for participation on the Board."
Hamilton
Handball Reunion and Party
- Sam Minnielli has planned a reunion of Hamilton-area handball players
for Friday, October 3rd and has extended an invitation to any and
all players in the area. The Hamilton guys would appreciate a big

Website
Hosting - Denny Ladwig, who's DesertCactus company provided
web-hosting and DNS services to both the GHCA and the USHA, plus a
number of other handball organizations, passed away suddenly this
past month, while playing handball. Below is the email received from
his wife a few days later.
This is to inform
you that Denny passed away on Monday while playing handball. I will
be shutting down our web hosting business after I return from services
for him in Wisconsin. I plan to leave all accounts in place until
the end of October, however. From our records you paid a yearly
fee, so I will calculate the amount due back to you. I'm not familiar
with your site, but will help you make any transition as much as
I can.
Lois Ladwig
9/25/03
Since this hosting
service is going out of business, the GCHA will need to re-locate
the website. Jim Krailler has been in contact with Vern Roberts Jr.
regarding their impending move, but the USHA has no firm plans in
place at this time. Jim will continue to stay in touch with Vern,
and is also seeking information and pricing from some Cincinnati area
web-hosting companies. Bob Burkitt moved, and the Board approved,
to give Jim the authority to relocate the site and negotiate the best
deal possible on the services needed, up to an annual fee of $400.
(The GCHA's current cost is $300.) In light of the timing, Jim will
keep Board members informed of any developments via emai.
State and Regional Activities - Jack Prather was
unable to attend the October Board meeting, so there was no update
on state and regional activities. Jack is slated to make a short presentation
as part of the Annual Fall Meeting.
Other?
Vern Sr. Memorial
- To commemorate the passing of Vern Roberts Sr, the Board approved
a donation of $100 to the USHA's Joe Ardito Travel Fund. Additional
funds will be solicited at the annual Fall Meeting for a lump-sum
contribution from the organization, with all individuals recognized
in the contribution letter to the USHA.
Ireland
Adventure Re-union - George Lehocky reported that he has
been contacted by Irene Trunick regarding a "one year re-union"
of those people who went on the GCHA's Ireland trip last November.
The tentative date for the re-union is Saturday, November 1 and Irene
is trying to make arrangements to hold the party at either The Dubliner
or Jack Quinn’s.
3-Wall
Court Maintenance - Bob Burkitt has contacted a representative
from Day Wall to inspect cracks in the walls and floors of the courts
and to make recommendations for repair and maintenance.
Shelter
at 3-wall courts -After informal discussions with a number
of players, Jim Krailler proposed pursuing construction of a permanent
shelter structure in the area immediately behind the 3-wall courts,
adjacent to the soccer field -- roughly a 20' x 50' poled-roof structure.
The Board agreed that the idea had merit. Mike Reilly will contact
both John Allen and the Green Township Park Board to explore the feasibility
of this project. Mike Spagnolli has volunteer to donate architectural
drawings if the project moves forward.
