3-Wall
Court Maintenance - Bob Burkitt encouraged as many people
as possible to attend the April 17th 3-Wall work day. Last month's
list of work items is still accurate.
3-Wall
Court Shelter - In
early March, John Allen talked
with Mike Schaeffer about pricing this structure, who suggested we
look at West Fork park as a sample structure. Jim Krailler did visit
the site and took pictures of the shelter at that location. Schaeffer
reports that Green Township uses the Jennings Company as contractors
for these jobs, and provided the following cost estimates for 20x30
shelter: $ 17,000 for the shelter itself (includes grading and site
prep, concrete pad, supports, and roof) and suggested an additional
$ 4,000 to replace the current fence on soccer field with a 10' high
fence to protect shelter users.
John suggested we offer
a 75% township / 25% GCHA split on the $ 21,000 total, which would
be a reasonable amount for the GCHA, considering that we've maintained
the $7,000 "Kirby fund" for the 3-Wall courts. John also
advised that GCHA representatives would need to attend one of the
regular Green Township Trustees meetings, held on alternate Tuesdays,
in order to present this proposal.
Later,
on Monday, March
22, John followed up the shelter proposal with Fred Schlimm. Fred
reported that Green
Township is currently experiencing some financial difficulties and
can offer no help on this "large" structure. Fred did offer
to persue building picnic table shelters (also in use at the West
Fork location) but these units will not meet the current goals of
the GCHA.
As an alternate
source of funding for the shelter, Steve Kehoe, GCHA member, suggested
Western Hills Kiwanis Club. Steve is also a member of the Kiwanis,
and reports that he attends their regular meetings. He will take the
funding idea to them, asking that they take on the shelter as a capital
project, using funds from the Harvest Home Festival. Tony Upton, Green
Township trustee, is also active with this group.

posted at all major GCHA events. Bob will pursue pricing for the banner,
as well as the cost of
producing shirts to promote blood donations to the Hoxworth Blood
Center.
