3-Wall Court Maintenance - Bob Burkitt encouraged as many people as possible to attend the April 17th 3-Wall work day. Last month's list of work items is still accurate.

3-Wall Court Shelter - In early March, John Allen talked with Mike Schaeffer about pricing this structure, who suggested we look at West Fork park as a sample structure. Jim Krailler did visit the site and took pictures of the shelter at that location. Schaeffer reports that Green Township uses the Jennings Company as contractors for these jobs, and provided the following cost estimates for 20x30 shelter: $ 17,000 for the shelter itself (includes grading and site prep, concrete pad, supports, and roof) and suggested an additional $ 4,000 to replace the current fence on soccer field with a 10' high fence to protect shelter users.

John suggested we offer a 75% township / 25% GCHA split on the $ 21,000 total, which would be a reasonable amount for the GCHA, considering that we've maintained the $7,000 "Kirby fund" for the 3-Wall courts. John also advised that GCHA representatives would need to attend one of the regular Green Township Trustees meetings, held on alternate Tuesdays, in order to present this proposal.

Later, on Monday, March 22, John followed up the shelter proposal with Fred Schlimm. Fred reported that Green
Township is currently experiencing some financial difficulties and can offer no help on this "large" structure. Fred did offer to persue building picnic table shelters (also in use at the West Fork location) but these units will not meet the current goals of the GCHA.

As an alternate source of funding for the shelter, Steve Kehoe, GCHA member, suggested Western Hills Kiwanis Club. Steve is also a member of the Kiwanis, and reports that he attends their regular meetings. He will take the funding idea to them, asking that they take on the shelter as a capital project, using funds from the Harvest Home Festival. Tony Upton, Green Township trustee, is also active with this group.

Enquirer article -Thanks to Bob Hiance's persistence, a story was published in the March 14th edition of the Sunday Cincinnati Enquirer. The story, authored by Enquirer reporter Shannon Russell, featured results of the Ohio 2004 State Championships and the USHA National Collegiate Championships, appeared on page B-2 of the Sports section, Sunday March 7th, and was reprinted in the Spring ShortLine.

Pete Mather Doubles Tournament - George Lehocky reported that the event was a success. Summary information has been posted on the website, to be followed up with a complete story with photographs.

Spring Dance - George Lehocky reports that Carl Fisher has decided not to pursue the Spring Dance this year.

Ohio Hall of Fame - Information was published in ShortLine, with no further progress reported

Reds Game - (repeated from March) George Lehocky has acquired tickets for the Reds versus the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday, July 27th. Right field bleacher tickets will cost $15 and the event will be publicized on the website and in the ShortLine.

Summer 3-wall league - Teams will be paired at the May Board Meeting, with play to begin on Wednesday, May 12th.

Hoxworth Blood Drive - Bob Burkitt suggested that GCHA have a banner created to promote this service project, and to have sign-up sheets for donors posted at all major GCHA events. Bob will pursue pricing for the banner, as well as the cost of producing shirts to promote blood donations to the Hoxworth Blood Center.

Ireland Trip, 2004
Other?

Irene Trunick
Board

Irish Handball Tour, Ireland Deux Trip - Irene Trunick presented some information related to a second trip to Ireland. The one-week itinerary would be much like the trip made in November 2002. Costs do not include transportation to the Chicago airport, transportation taxes, or travel insurance. We would need a minimum of 20 travelers for the trip to proceed, with a maximum of 40. Deposits of $350 are required per traveler, with deadlines to be established.

Irene provided draft flyers to the Board, featuring information concerning two possible dates. The price for the trip is dependent on the dates chosen. The trip leaving on Friday October 22nd is priced at $1,447; an identical trip leaving on Friday November5th is less expensive, priced at $1,299. Based on both the weather and the extablished "first weekend in November" timeline of the Queen City Shootout, the Board voted to pursue the October 22nd date.

Irene will finalize the flyers and trip information prior to publication. The board also suggested that the information be forwarded to the USHA for promotion in Handball Magazine.

Other -

Bruce Beimesch Memorial - The Board voted unanimously to have the GCHA donate $100 to sponsor a hole at this benefit golf outing, sponsored by the the St. Vincent dePaul Community Pharmacy. Information has been posted on the website and in the Spring ShortLine for members to participate.

WebCam - Bob Burkitt presented information regarding the proposed webcam for the 3-wall courts. Bob suggests including this as part of the shelter project.
