3-Wall Court Maintenance - Bob Burkitt presented the following written report to the Board.

Saturday, April 17 was the scheduled workday for the 3-wall courts and although minimal work was performed everyone who attended had a good time as reported (anonymously) on the website. Although the courts survived the Winter with little damage some work remains to be done to keep them in top condition:
  • Contractors recommend caulking of the joints between the floors and walls
Status: Material sufficient for one court has been purchased, ready to apply
    Issues: None
    Plan: Time and help permitting
  • Contractors recommend sealing court surfaces to repel water
Status: Material readily available and expenditure approved
Issues: Possible change in playing characteristics – contractors deny change.
Plan: One court to be sealed and tested.
  • Repainting of lines
Status: Material available, to be done where needed prior to Caples – RBB
    Issues: None
    Plan: Time permitting
  • Weeds at fence line
Status: To be sprayed with weedkiller – material donation - RBB
    Issues: None
    Plan: As required
  • Shrubs near court steps
Status: Township planted decorative shrubs near court steps
Issues: Lack of water – suggest using discarded ice and water on plants
  • Bulletin board
    Status: Seeking donation

3-Wall Court Shelter - The general feeling is that Green Township is more interested in developing other parks, and that adding to Veterans' Park is not high on the Green Township priority list. There is continued talk about the township building a facility near their maintenance garage area which will house bathrooms and showers for their workers. The township has offered sharing that facility with the players if the project is completed. For the time being, this item will be dropped from the Board agenda.

Ohio Hall of Fame - No further progress was reported. As a result, Mike Reilly volunteered to contact John Love and attempt to establish a timeline for Cincinnati-area nominations. This particular topic sparked a lively discussion regarding the merits of "honoring the old guys" versus other support activities geared toward younger players.

Reds Game - (repeated) George Lehocky has acquired tickets for the Reds versus the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday, July 27th. Right field bleacher tickets will cost $15 and the event will be publicized on the website and in the ShortLine.

Summer 3-wall league - Teams were paired at the May Board Meeting, with play to begin on Wednesday, May 12th.

Hoxworth Blood Drive - Bob Burkitt suggested that the Hoxworth logo be included on the Caples shirts. Jim Krailler will include the logo, presuming it can fit in with the overall design of the shirt.

Bruce Beimesch Memorial - The Board voted unanimously to have the GCHA donate $100 to sponsor a hole at this benefit golf outing, sponsored by the the St. Vincent dePaul Community Pharmacy. Information has been posted on the website and in the Spring ShortLine for members to participate. Skip Dixon, Grant Kirby, Don Schilling and George Morano will be representing the GCHA.

Irish Handball Tour, Ireland Deux Trip - Irene Trunick continues to work on the specific dates, itinerary and prices for the Ireland trip.

Toledo - Contacts in Toledo have reported that they intend to host a 3-wall event where players from each city will compete in teams against players from other cities in the area. This type of tournament has proven popular in years past.

First Aid Kit - Bob Burkitt will propose a first aid kit for purchase, to be available at the 3-wall courts during the summer and brought to other tournaments and events throughout the year.
