Irish Handball Tour - The deadline for signing
up for the trip has past, and 11 deposits have been sent in. Since
that number is not adequate to host a "handball" tour, Irene
Trunick is investigating joining up with already established trips
for those who wish to visit Ireland. Item closed.
Ohio Hall
of Fame - Bob Hiance reports that he intends to nominate
Doug Blankemeyer and Denny Dupps as joint inductees into the hall.
George Lehocky will contact members of the Cincinnati-area Hall of
Fame Committee (Bob Lohmueller, John Love, Gary Reece and Bruce McCormick)
and ask that they attend the September Board meeting to outline the
next steps in the process, including member ratification at the Annual
Fall Meeting.
Reds Game
- George Lehocky reports that the Reds versus the St. Louis Cardinals
on Tuesday, July 27th game was a sell out. It was a beautiful night
for baseball and the GCHA. Unfortunately, the Reds played miserably
and lost the game. Feedback from members suggested that the Reds Outing
return to Friday night in future years. Item closed.
Summer
3-wall league - Carl Huether and Jim Wohl won the A-division
over Jack Dean and Jack Prather. Greg Fite and Mike Spagnolli won
the B-division over Bob Burkitt and Don Meyer.
Jim Krailler asked that the Board seek
a new director for the 2005 season. Item closed.
GCHA Golf Outing - Paul Baker has confirmed that
the GCHA Golf Outing will be held on Friday September 17th at the
Green Crest Golf Course. The sign-up deadline is Friday September
3rd. Prices and all other details will be the same as in the past
two years. Information and an electronic entry form have been posted
on the website.
Kendler
Award - Jack Prather, the USHA's Mid-America Region Commissioner,
reports that he has received nine letters of support for nominating
Toledo's George Miller Jr. for the USHA's Kendler Award. (See July
minutes for more information on the award.) These will be forwarded
to Mike Dau, Chair of the USHA Hall of Fame Committee, for future
action. Jack Dean reprimanded Jim Krailler, who did not follow through
on his volunteer effort to write a nomination letter on behalf of
the GCHA.
USHA National Masters Singles - Jack Prather reports
that, although the tournament is still slated for early April, the
final dates have not been confirmed because of scheduling conflicts
with Sam Minielli's banquet hall. He expects to have that wrapped
within a week. A number of committees have been formed to deal with
particular aspects related to the tournament, including finance, food,
hospitality and sponsorship. The plan is to have sponsorship finalized
by December, and feature a multi-tiered approach with appropriate
perks. (Name on courts, name on shirts, names in entry form, etc.)
Board Membership and Officers -
With Board approval via email vote, President George Lehocky invited
the prospective new Board Members (Will Straw, Dave Laxton, and Greg
Fite) to attend the meeting. Due to the timing and the increased workload
associated with the USHA's National Masters Singles in April, the
stability of the Board became a top priority. As George stated, electing
officers and determining the GCHA Board early, in August 2004, will
put the leadership team in place to execute the USHA tournament in
2005. After lengthy discussion, the 2005 GCHA Board of Directors that
will be proposed to the membership at the Annual Meeting is:
- President, George Lehocky
- Vice-President, Jack Dean
- Treasurer, David Kent
- Secretary/WebMaster, Jim Krailler
- At-Large Members
- Bob Burkitt
- Greg Fite
- Bob Hiance
- Dave Laxton
- Mike Reilly
- Will Straw
Annual
Meeting - George Lehocky has made arrangements with the Washington
Platform to host this year's GCHA Annual Fall Meeting and Membership
Appreciation Night on Monday October 11th. George will also make court
arrangements at the Central Parkway YMCA at a future date. Bob Hiance
reports no progress on making contact with Joe Nuxhall, so that idea
will be tabled.
