| Income / Expenditures / Current balance - Treasurer David Kent
presented the financial report. The current balance of the GCHA checking
account is $ 10,275.36. David also presented a summary
of the financial report for the Queen City Shootout, reporting a current
loss of $44.86. There is still one outstanding payment of a $250.00
sponsorship. If collected, the tournament will be a break-even event.
Membership Report - Jim Krailler reports
that the 2005 roster currently lists 57 members. A mailing,
including a self-addressed envelope, was sent to 85 non-renewed members
on December 30th. A number of members who signed up at either the Queen
City Shootout or by other means are not reflected in this number. This
list will be updated and distributed at next month's meeting. |

Ohio Handball Hall of Fame - The decision of the
Cincinnati-area Hall Of Fame Committee is that the local area will
not nominate any recipients fo the current year. Will Straw did follow
up on his suggestion at the previous month's meeting that a statewide
perspective is required. Willie presented the original criteria from
1980's for state of Ohio, which included prowess in local, state,
regional, national, and runner-up competitions, plus overall contribution
to handball. Willie will pursue Hall of Fame considerations with other
Ohio area committees at a future date. The GCHA Board decided unanimously
to remove this item from the monthly agenda.
3-Wall Maintenance - Mike Reilly
was unsuccessful (again, go figure) in contacting Fred Schlimm to
attempt to set up an avenue of regular communication with the Green
Township Park Maintenance staff.
Collegiate Handball - A letter
from Zach Arem was received, thanking the GCHA for the opportunity
to play in the Shootout, and encouraging participation in their upcoming
tournament. The letter also requested financial assistance for team
members to attend the USHA's National Collegiate Tournament, scheduled
for Minneapolis, February 23rd - 27th. In response, the Board voted
to donate $150, plus free GCHA membership to each of the UK team members,
in return for directory information.
Winter
ShortLine - Jim Krailler reports that the Winter edition
of the ShortLine was posted on Sunday, January 2nd, with printed copies
mailed the next day. To date, only six active members have requested
a printed, mailed copy.
Membership Card - Bob Burkitt prepared samples of
GCHA luggage tags. After lengthy discussion (lengthy enough that most
attendees tuned out) concerning the value of a membership card, Bob
stated that he will prepare luggage tags for the current Board members.
The GCHA Board decided (not unanimous, but close enough) to remove
this item from the monthly agenda.
Web Space - Old News from the three earliest years
of the website, 1999-2001, will be removed to keep the site within
the space limitations. The Board chose to archive older information,
with a note in "Old News" to contact the webmaster for these pages.

Queen City Shootout
- The Queen City
Shootout was held on December 3rd, 4th and 5th at Paul Baker's
Athletic Club @ Waycross. Greg Fite, tournament director, reports
receiving lots of positive feedback.
65 players participated in this year's event.
USHA National Masters Singles - The dates for this
tournament are Thursday, April 7th through Sunday, April 10th. The
banquet will be held Saturday evening at Sam Minielli's banquet hall,
Tori's Station in Fairfield. Committee work continues with particular
aspects related to the tournament, including finance, food, hospitality
and sponsorship. The plan is to have sponsorship finalized soon, and
feature a multi-tiered approach with appropriate perks. (Name on courts,
name on shirts, names in entry form, etc.) The entry form has been
published in the USHA's Handball magazine. There are 13 divisions
of players, including two women's divisions. A proposed budget projection
was distributed to the Board members.
Members of the fund-rasing committee have met with Joe Nuxhall and
discussed using his foundation to solicit funds in conjunction with
the banquet. Kim Nuxhall, Joe's son, will be approached as the spokesperson
for the Nuxhall foundation. As of the January Board meeting, tournament
players are to be included in the banquet as part of their entry fee.
Others will be charged. Proceeds from the banquet will need to exceed
$5,000 to cover all expenses. Seating capacity of the smaller hall
at Tori's Station is 300 seats, with projected attendance of 150 from
the tournament.
