USHA National
Masters Singles - The dates for this tournament are
Thursday, April 7th through Sunday, April 10th. The banquet will be
held Saturday evening at Sam Minielli's banquet hall, Tori's Station,
in Fairfield. Committee work continues with particular aspects related
to the tournament, including finance, food, hospitality and sponsorship.
The entry form has been published in the USHA's Handball magazine.
There are 13 divisions of players, including two women's divisions.
Fundraising: David Kent reports receiving $800 from Hall of Fame
members, with an additional $400 pledged. Jack Prather has collected
$120 from the sale of promotional shirts. Jack Prather has also developed
a list of potential sponsors and will send each a personalized letter.
The main incentive will be an embroidered jacket as a special gift
for any donation greater than $250, along with the tournament entry
fee.
Awards: Ron Rosselot distributed draft copies of a watercolor painted
by his wife, Debbie, depicting a handball game with the Cincinnati
skyline as the frontwall of the court. This artwork would be used
for awards in all 13 divisions, the tournament program and other promotional
materials. Extra prints would be available for purchase, and the original
watercolor could be designated for some special presentation.
Banquet: Jack Prather has yet to determine the dinner entree, and
the emcee for the banquet has yet to be determined. Ron Rosselot suggested
that the banquet include either a silent auction or a raffle to distribute
donations of goods, services, accomodations, etc. Whether Joe Nuxhall
will appear at the banquet to speak is still uncertain, despite numerous
efforts to contact Nuxhall's representatives.
Program: Dave Laxton is gathering information and making plans to
produce a tournament souvenir program for players and others.
Profits from tournament: Should income exceed expenses for this event,
the Board decided that the distribution of profits should follow the
following order: 1. Ohio Handball Hall of Fame, up to the total contribution
of its members as promised in the letter seeking donations; 2. Joe
Nuxhall Foundation, presuming Joe does participate at the banquet;
3. USHA Handball Development Fund.
Merchandise: Jack Prather believes that part of the USHA agreement
is that the GCHA will sell selected USHA merchandise on consignment.
Any unsold items will be returned to the USHA.
