Golf Outing - The 2006 event, the 20th Annual
GCHA Golf Outing, is schedule for September 15th. Paul Baker is again
organizing the event.
Fall Meeting - Agenda items were solicited for the
Fall Meeting. David Kent will present a financial report, and Jim
Krailler will report on the GCHA membership drive. The proposed 2007
Board slate will be presented to the membership for ratification.
(see below) Bob Burkitt asked to present a prize drawing for Hoxworth
Blood Centerdonors who have contributed using the HDB "handball"
designation.
It has been proposed to the Board that there be a Sports Memorabilia
sale at Fall meeting, with proceeds benefitting Queen City. After
discussion of the results of previous year, it was decided not to
pursue such a sale.
GCHA Board Succession Planning - A notice will be
placed on the website seeking volunteers to serve on the board, and
open nominations will be accepted at the Fall Meeting. The slate of
officers to be presented at the meeting is:
- David Kent, President
- Jack Dean, Vice-President
- Ron Rosselot, Treasurer
- Jim Krailler, Secretary/WebMaster
- At-Large: Bob Burkitt, Greg Fite, Chris Lazarovski, Mike Reilly,
and Will Straw
Team Tournament - Will Straw reported that no progress
has been made on the establishment of team tournaments.
3-Wall Court Improvements - At July's Board meeting,
Jim Krailler suggested that the GCHA seek cooperation from Green Township
to solicit quotes for the following projects:
- Rinse shower centrally located between sand volleyball courts
and handball courts, (preferred first option) or
- Rinse shower located in the restroom area
- Concrete slab, wall-finishing, and some fencing or netting for
1-wall court(s) to be located at west side of 3-wall courts in Veterans
Park.
Chris Lazarovski will approach Tony Upton for Green Township support
for these projects and to help out with any of the proposal logistics.
Mike Reilly volunteered to get an estimate from the Siefert company
for installing a slab for one-wall. (No progress on either item since
last Board meeting.)
During the month, Bob Burkitt met with Mike Schaffer, Parks Field
Supervisor for Green Township, to discuss the following:
- Uneven surface between court floor and apron. Would need a concrete
grinder to smooth. (Subsequently handled by Green Township.)
- Divots on floors and wall. Burkitt will patch wall spalls.
- Drainage near Court #1
- Concrete bench, to replace composite bench
- Drinking fountain in area, to be shared by soccer, volleyball
and handball.
- Rinse shower, to be shared by volleyball and handball
- One-wall court, on west wall
Bob reports that these items seem reasonable to the township, but
need further investigation and planning. Bob Burkitt will approach
Jeff Olsen about the possibility of preparing CAD drawings. Other
items are awaiting response from Green Township.
UC Handball Team - Sam Ma is now the UC handball
team coach.
City Tournament - Will Straw proposed that the Board
consider resurrecting the City tournament, with participation limited
to local players only. The
idea will be discussed at a future Board meeting.
