Carl Huether Slams

Cincinnatian Carl Huether slammed in the Open Singles and Open Doubles at the 2003 Queen City Shootout tournament, held in Cincinnati, OH the first weekend in November at the Athletic Club @ Waycross. Carl defeated host Paul Baker in the singles, then went on with partner Don Parker to take the doubles title from Doug Blankemeyer and Jeff Metzger.

The college teams, from both Miami University in nearby Oxford, OH and the University of Kentucky team from Lexington, were a major presence at the tournament. The team of A.J. Arem and Ryan Klein took home the B-Doubles championship by defeating Jack Dean and Greg Fite in the finals, while Miami's Kevin Albertson and Jason Headings took home the C-Doubles award.

In other singles, fourteen-year-old Nikolai Nahorniak of Des Plaines, IL, added the C-Singles championship to his growing list of achievements. Eric Neff took the B-Singles championship back to Columbus, OH. Jim Krailler, Cincinnati, won the Golden Masters division, and Dick Richards from Lexington was the Super Golden champion.

Unable to play due to injury, George Lehocky kept busy
reporting the results and interviewing the players.
He's seen here with Cleveland's Mario Dolciato.
