Cincinnati Reds' and GCHA A Winning Combination by George Lehocky |
| When the GCHA Board looked at the Red’s 2003 schedule to pick a game for GCHA members, it was absolutely unanimous that there was one team everybody wanted to see - the New York Yankees. Otherwise known as The Bronx Bombers, Sultans Of Swat, The Winningest Franchise In Sports, etc. etc. The Board was absolutely clairvoyant. 35 tickets were purchased for the game on Wednesday night, June 4 and “sold themselves” to GCHA members. Many more could have been sold. Tickets were $20.00 each (Normal cost of $15.00 but + $5.00 added by the Reds because of the “damn” Yankees). The night was perfect! New ballpark. Great weather. Sold out stadium. Great seats. Great people. Reds win coming from behind with great pitching and hitting (4 HRs). In attendance were GCHA’ers and their guests Bill Blewett, John Love, Johnny Joiner, Glen Laque, Jim Krailler, Jack Dean, Bob Hiance and daughter, Dave Kent, Jim Simon, Richard Loflin, Al Claymon, Roger Cassiere, Grant Kirby, Paul and Pete Smith, Tony Cianciolo, Skip Dixon, Don Schilling, Nancy Taylor, Pat Carnes (YMCA), Kim Albertson (Miami University Handball Team) and George Lehocky. Thanks to all for the support. Can’t wait until next year! |

| In the Winter Doubles League at The Fitness Club @ Waycross, Richard Gregg and Bob Allen Jr. won the A-league; 2nd place went to Paul Baker and Jeff Metzger. Pat Lunn and Tom Gilday won the B-league; the team of Bob Burkitt and Jim O'Brien placed 2nd. Both Fall and Winter leagues was a great success -- good competition, some great matches, and a lot of post-game activities, thanks to the wonderful hospitality of Paul and Beth Baker, and all of the Waycross staff. |
Three-Wall
Summer Doubles League
by Jim Krailler
| If enough players sign up, we'll arrange a 2nd Summer 3-Wall league, following the same guidelines as the one now wrapping up. Pick a partner (or not ) and sign-up by Wednesday, July 16th. Play is scheduled to begin on July 23rd. The cost of $ 10.00 per person covers awards, postage and an end-of-league party. The league consists of two divisions, A-level and B-level. Players should sign-up for only one division of their choice, and can request to play with a specific partner. League organizers will try to respect these requests; however, we do reserve the right to assign players, as needed. Teams play every other team in their division once; then the top four teams play a single-elimination tournament for the championship. Awards will be presented at the Annual Fall Party to the first and second-place teams in each division. Matches
are scheduled on Wednesday evenings in two time slots, 5:00 pm and
6:30 pm. Sign
up now with our web-based entry
form. |
