3-Wall
Workday

Despite temperatures hovering around 40 degrees and a stiff breeze, the scheduled work day took place at Veterans Park on Saturday, April 5th.

GCHA President George Lehocky, Ralph Weil and Bob Burkitt were early arrivals at the scheduled time of 9:00 am and were soon joined by a contingent from the Miami University Handball Team.

Jason Headings, Chris Horwarth, Brett Polson, Kevin Albertson and Dan Enders made the trip from Oxford to help with the work.

Projects undertaken were:

  • Resetting of the blocks on the entrance steps to the courts;
  • Washing the courts to remove dirt and rocks accumulated over the winter;
  • Replacement of a broken board on one of the benches;
  • Spraying weed killer on “volunteer” vegetation;
  • Repair of spalls in the concrete court floors, damage from freeze-thaw cycle.

Repainting of the court lines was postponed due to the cold temps and wind. The steps were completed by the Miami guys, Ralph and Chris worked on the bench, George and Bob cleaned the courts and everyone worked on repairing the court floors.

Around noon a handball game broke out amongst the Miami group, cut short by cold temps and the onset of hunger. Ralph Weil invited the work crew to a nice lunch at Golden Corral
