3-Wall
Workday

Great weather and executive mis-management created an atmosphere that workers called "cruel and inhuman" and resulted in the first-ever GCHA workers' wildcat strike at the annual 3-Wall Work Day, held at Veterans Park on Saturday, April 17th.

Will Straw explains to son Chandler that "bouncing a handball
really is work...remember that when you're talking to your mom."

The day began at the appointed hour, 9:00 am, as workers flocked to the job site. They came from as near as Green Township and from as far as Miami University and Kentucky.

Chief Executive Officer George "MoneyBags" Lehocky was on hand to oversee this exercise in worker exploitation. But without his strong arm man, Bob "Boss" Burkitt, and his gang of enforcement thugs, Lehocky couldn't command the workers.

The workers took matters into their own hands, as Will Straw talked his two young sons into sweeping out the courts by bribing them with Mountain Dew. (Actually, this was the ONLY work done that day.)

Once the courts were swept, the workers tired of waiting for Burkitt, and voted that the best way to get the courts ready for play would be to actually play on them.

So the games commenced, and were in full swing by 10:00 am, when Burkitt finally did arrive on the scene in his silver, chauffer-driven limousine. But by then, the work day couldn't be salvaged.

The day proved to be a "power to the people" victory for the workers, and they declared it the "Best 3-Wall Work Day" ever.

And "the man" -- Burkitt and Lehocky -- slinked away in defeat, each carrying a leaf-blower. Foiled by a simple mis-communication about the actual starting time of the work day.

And finally, what GCHA story would be complete without a recycled joke.

So, this photo is from last year's work day.
And the caption is from last year's story.
But the chuckles belong to 2004.

Have a great summer season!!
