| Green Township Days 2009 |
As part of Green Township’s Bicentennial Celebration, an Information Fair was conducted at the Nathan Green Lodge at 6394 Wesselman Road. Invited by Jennifer Barlow of Green Township to participate in the event, the GCHA/Handball was represented Bob Burkitt and George Lehocky, who manned a booth from 2 to 4:30 p.m. About 20 other booths were staffed by various community organizations. This opportunity served as a good way to meet people, spread the word about handball and the special relationship the GCHA has with Veteran’s Park and the Caples’s 3-wall courts and the objective to build a fourth court by Spring 2010. It’s a small world. We met Pat Lunn’s brother in law, Michael Walsh and Mike Reilly’ s cousin, Jerry Hollenkamp, who both shared some good stories about Pat and Mike. We also met Tom Liguzinki’s wife, Kathy, who was at a booth representing another organization. Jack Snyder of the Veteran’s of Foreign Wars Township Post 10380, a creative force behind the design and building of Veteran’s Park, related the story how he went toe to toe with Bob Burkitt regarding the direction the 3-wall courts were to be placed. Thankfully, Bob prevailed and the courts are open on the side that eliminates the sun factor. Thanks Bob Burkitt for getting it right!
